Student Spotlight: Shaping Future Global CPAs in Canada
When local academic rigor meets an international classroom, the results speak for themselves.
For Alyanna Gumabon, a 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy student at St. Paul University Quezon City, taking her education across borders was the ultimate test—and triumph—of her Paulinian training.
Alyanna recently returned from New Brunswick, Canada, where she completed a semester at New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) – Saint John Campus. Selected under Phase 1 (SY 2025–2026) of the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program, she immersed herself in NBCC’s academic environment from September through December 2025.
Alyanna was one of two accountancy majors awarded the competitive grant in her cohort, proving that SPUQC’s business curriculum seamlessly aligns with international standards.
“Local Roots, Global Outlook”
During her four months at NBCC, Alyanna navigated new academic methodologies, engaged with an international student community, and experienced Canada’s business culture firsthand.
“Representing SPUQC abroad allowed me to realize that our training at home truly holds up on a global scale,” Alyanna shares. “The experience gave me a much broader perspective on my field and boosted my confidence as an aspiring professional.”
