SPUQC Gets ISO 9001:2015 Certification: How It Translates to Quality Education

After a two-day re-certification audit with upgrade on February 8-9, 2018, St. Paul University Quezon City was awarded with ISO 9001:2015 Certificate by TUV Rheinland.

The scope of the audit is on the “Design, Development and Implementation of Academic and Non-academic Services within the University.”  The certificate is valid from April 1, 2018 until March 31, 2021.

The audit team led by Mr. Rafael T. Magsino, with Mr. John Francis Faustorilla, Jr. and Ms. Abigail Salomon as members, verified the effectiveness of SPUQC’s management system by sampling approach, by conducting interviews with the auditees and by reviewing the appropriate documentation.

Based on the findings, the audit revealed that SPUQC complies with ISO 9001:2015 standards with zero nonconformity.  In additon, the auditors also commended the following positive findings:

1. Management:  SPUQC was awarded Autonomous Status by CHED on May 18, 2017.

2. Facility Continual Improvement:  SPUQC renovated the HRM Laboratory, Hot Kitchen, Cold Kitchen, Basement parking and relocated the ICT Laboratory to a more strategic and accessible location.  The institution also provided a mobile phone charging station.

3. Library:  The University Library acquired new books from Singapore and replaced the old chairs.

4. Classroom Observation (Grade 12 St Gabriel):  The interesting assignment for class management provided the opportunity to delegate/encourage room management tasks.

As opportunities for improvement, 23 recommendations were provided by the audit team to further improve the management system of SPUQC.

Having been ISO-certified since March 2003, the members of the administration and the lay managers welcomed the recommendations offered by the external auditor with high hopes and enthusiasm. (Cristina Price, SPUQC Quality Assurance Officer)
